Everyone loves a writing contest, right? I certainly do and it’s even better when there is a prize.
Ok, so here are the dets:
I want to do something a little different and challenging. The contest will be for a horror short of 2,000 to 3,000 words. The theme of your horror must have something to do with stripes. I know this sounds weird, but your creative minds will come up with something absolutely terrifying and wonderful.
The submissions will be posted the week of January 17, 2011 with a place for readers to review and vote. The person with the MOST votes by midnight (EST) January 24, 2010 WINS.
Now, I suppose you want to know what your prize is? First prize is a winner’s certificate and $25 Gift Card to http://www.amazon.com/; Second Prize is a $10 http://www.amazon.com/ gift card.
THIS IS FIRST COME FIRST SERVE. I WILL TAKE THE FIRST TEN SUBMISSIONS THAT COME INTO MY EMAIL. I will send a confirmation that your story has been officially entered.

Great idea, Lisa! I'll retweet and pass along on FB.
Stripes? Jeeeese. Now I actualy have to think about what I write.
Haha, see! I am excited to see what everyone comes up with!
Stripes… stripes… ah, why is Bill Murray the only thing popping into my head? I'll have to think on this a bit but looking forward to the challenge!
I know, right?
Awesome! This sounds fun, can't wait to start thinking up some ideas.
Can't wait to read the stories
This is fun!
Hmmm what to do with stripes?A man moves into a new house. He is in his midlife crisis and trying to regain his glory years boxing. He sets up downstairs, boxing the days away. The whole while he sees the stripes, black and squiggled, on a wall opposite of him. He starts to try to see something in the stripes, because he notices that they change each time he comes down. Soon, they change when he blinks or looks away. He tries to bring his wife down, but she notices nothing. He thinks he is going crazy, but he keeps coming down to look at the stripes. Soon, the stripes finally materialize into a door, much like one of those paintings. This would be one of those stories called bizarro? Anyway, he would go into the door, already unhappy with his life. And as he does, the stripes close again and screaming is heard. When the wife comes down she doesn't see her husband, only the swinging boxing thing and slashed, horizontal stripes, painted like cracks. Along the edge of the cracks, if she had looked closely enough, some blood leaked out.Sorry, I ramble. That is off the top of my head and I will probably be thinking I'm stupid come tomorrow. But if you like it, us it. Shrug, this is fun. I'll try to find time for it LM. Great new layout. Teach me how to switch to wordpress and bring everything and followers!
Draven, that sounds awesome
That, Draven Ames, is complete madness. I love it! Write it!
ooh…fun! Can I play? I have a stripey idea brewing already!Great idea!

Just found your site, can’t believe I had not seen it soon. I’m Connie, by the way. I have a question about the submission time. Will you accept them starting midnight or a particular time starting 1/5? I think I might try this contest out for fun
Hi Connie!! Glad you found me! Submissions will begin midnight EST…can’t wait to see what you come up with!!!
Ooh it’ll be a challenge for sure. The topic of stripes will be a big challenge. Now does it have to be literal pattern or could it be representative like a Zebra? That has stripes.
I hope I can come up with something good by then
As long as the theme is stripes you are fine. Totally up to you how you interpret it! Good Luck!
My only hope is that my take on the stripes is innovative, and the story doesn’t end up sounding like the plot line of every horror movie I’ve ever watched.
