I use to be a dancer before I ever started to write. I use to dance with a dance partner. We did dance lifts in nightclubs, shops, ect. We did Street Hip Hop and we did some really dangerous stunts when we did these dance stunts.
This one night me and Derek were set to go up on top of a bar to do a dance move. We’d been dealing with other stuff and he forgot to check the bar to make sure it was whole. So when we went up on top of the bar we started to do our dance stuff and everything seemed fine. That is, until he lifted me up onto his shoulders to do a lift and… the bar gave way underneath us. We went through the bar scratching out legs, arms and stomachs up and . . . the beer attached to the bar sprayed up into the air.
We continued to dance on, even through our skin sheered with pain and everyone thought it was apart of the show. I learned that night to check everything myself. When we stepped out of the remains of the bar, and Derek shouted to the crowd, “Beer shower!” The crowd started cheering and going wild.
That night wasn’t forgotten in a hurry and we learned how important team work is and how people should always check things out. Even now I double-check everything and make sure I know what I’m walking into. A great life lesson and the bar made sure to put in a real bar from then on.
