A Picture Says A Thousand Words Photo Contest

To celebrate the recent launch of Amazon’s new Kindle Paperwhite, I thought it would be fun to do something I haven’t done in a while…

Hold a contest! *cue claps and gasps from the audience*

A picture says a thousand words, and I want your pictures. I want your pictures of you reading A Thirty-Something Girl.  The photo can be of you reading the paperback or e-book version.

Your submission should include your picture, a punchy caption of 20 words or less, and a brief description of what part of the book inspired you to take the picture. The picture does not, however, need to be representative of that particular place in the book at all. It only needs to be, as I said, creative. Your photo can make me cry, it can make me laugh, and it might even make me say, “What?”

Photos should be appropriate for all audiences, so please, no nude photos… you would think I wouldn’t need to put this disclaimer out there, but Lisa’s learned it’s always better to be on the safe side ;)

Submissions should be sent to lisa AT lmstull DOT com with “A Picture Says A Thousand Words Photo Contest – [your name]” in the subject line.

The body of the email should include the following:

  • Your caption
  • The scene in the book where inspiration struck you
  • Your name
  • Your email address
  • Your Twitter handle (if applicable)

Submissions open TODAY and run through October 31, 2012 at midnight Eastern Standard Time. I will then review all submissions to determine the winners. The winners will be notified by email and a post sharing the winning photos and announcing the winners will go up November 15, 2012.  Prizes will be sent out shortly thereafter.

Who can submit? Submissions are open to readers in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, and Australia.

What do you win? You probably have a good idea, don’t you? :D

  • First place takes home Amazon’s brand new Kindle Paperwhite and a $25 Amazon gift card to start downloading some books!
  • Second place takes home a $25 amazon gift card.
  • Third place takes home a $10 gift card.

So what do you do now? You get to reading, modeling, and being creative.

Don’t have A Thirty-Something Girl? It’s available on AmazonBarnes & NobleSmashwords and iTunes.

Questions? Hit me up in the comments below, email me, or stalk me on one of the many social media sites I frequent.

Until October 31st, Happy Contest Entering!

Annual M.R. Mathias Dragon Poetry Contest

I am pleased to announce that I will be hosting, for the second year, a poetry contest with author M.R. Mathias.  The poetry contest will also include a Poetry Anthology, publishing all submissions and raising money for the charity, Smile Train.  This is a great chance to not only get some of your work out there, but to help a wonderful cause.

A Little About M.R. Mathias

The jewel you see glowing in the ring in my authors photo isn’t really a jewel at all. It is the crystallized tear of a real dragon. In my novel “The Royal Dragoneers” you might find the moment where this wonderfully magical tear drop fell from a green dragons eye and hardened on its way down to land in a mess of troll corpses that the dragon was laying on.

My grandfather died before I was born, but the ring was given to me by my mother, after my grandmother recently died. My grandfather had apparently won the ring in a poker game near the Red River between Texas and Oklahoma sometime in the early 1900′s.

It has been a boon, the magic of the teardrop, for it brought you here to me didn’t it? Now treat yourself to something fantastic and try out the free sample of one of my novels. I hope you enjoy the journey. It will be spectacular.

~Contest Rules~

The poem submitted must center on dragons.   Any style poetry will be accepted.  All entries must be submitted by email to lisa AT lmstull DOT com before midnight February 15, 2012.  At that time, the entries will be reviewed and judged.  Please reference “M.R. So, without further delay, step away from your current WIP, enter the world of dragons and write some poetry!

Submissions will be accepted beginning NOW!

*All entries added to the Poetry Anthology are deemed donations.  The Author’s name will be attributed in the anthology.  It is understood that Author will be due no monies in connection with the Anthology sales.  Each sale will equal approximately a $0.35 net profit for the charity after deducting costs associated with producing the Kindle & Nook ebooks.  M.R. Mathias will receive no compensation for this Anthology.  Net proceeds received from sales will be donated to www.smiletrain.org.  The Anthology will remain on sale until the net profit reaches $250.00.  At that time, the Anthology will be removed from sale.  Rights to each poem will remain with Author.

A Dreaming in Darkness Giveaway

Who likes great books? Wait…who likes great books for FREEEEE?

That got your attention didn’t it?

My friend, the very talented Jessica Kristie, is doing just this! All you need to do is visit Jessica’s Author Fan Page and “like” her. On her page, you will see a post that gives you a “code” saying. Simply come back to this blog and enter this quote in the comment field and BOOM, you’re entered to win a free copy of Jessica’s kindle ebook. But you have to hurry, this offer is only valid TODAY!

If you are not familiar with Jessica and her book, allow me to introduce you…

Dreaming in Darkness is the new contemplative collection of poetry from writer Jessica Kristie. Share the passion and anguish, the acceptance and regret that life imposes on us all. Feel the validation of your pain and discover empowerment through understanding. A light always exists when you are Dreaming in Darkness.

“Poetry is my heart, anchors my soul and documents my journey.” – Jessica Kristie

Born and raised in the California Bay Area, Jessica discovered her passion to write at the young age of ten. She regurgitates her heart and mind, sometimes in structure and sometimes in free flow, as a way to heal and understand herself and those around her.

Jessica’s inspiration comes in many forms, often inspired by just a word or quickly fleeting emotion.  Through years of writing she has been able to capitalize on her experiences, whether they are painful or joyous. Inside each of these moments lies a grand piece of her history. They are a documentation of much of the pain life has to offer, and the hopeful bit of empowerment required for survival. She hopes to draw you close to her world through shared emotion while inspiring you to forgive, remember, and heal.

You can find Jessica’s first volume of poetry and prose Dreaming in Darkness on Amazon. She has several other projects in the works including a second book of poetry and her first novel. You can follow her at JessicaKristie.com for updated information.

Connect with Jessica on her WebsiteTwitter and Facebook

I want to take a few moments and share with you a new award that the very talented author, Jason McIntyre has created, THE FARTHEST REACH AWARD.

This new award aims to…

“Give kudos and high-fives to indie and pro writers, publishers, book professionals and readers who are doing a bang-up job of marketing themselves or their industry”

The Mayne Event

It is with absolute pleasure that I fill you in on a special little event that will be taking place beginning tomorrow.  My dear friend and very talented author, Ann Mauren, kicks off her very first book promotion in celebration of her book, Mayne Attraction‘s one-year anniversary (yayy!).

Ann will be offering her ebook for FREE and there will be an opportunity for you to be entered into the grand prize drawing…ooooo…who doesn’t want a FREE book AND a grand prize, huh?

Now, you may be wondering – why in the world is she doing this??

My goal is to encourage as many free downloads as possible through this coming weekend and push the book to the top of the Amazon Kindle Top 100 (Free) Bestsellers list.   I think there is a real chance to accomplish this goal, especially with a network of friends spreading the word on something that doesn’t cost a dime, only a minute of your time.

So, let’s help a friend and fellow writer out and push her to the top!!!

Be sure to visit Ann’s host, Jason McIntyre, starting Thursday for details about this special event!  Questions in the meantime?  Stalk Ann on Twitter or visit her on her website.

~~~
Ann Mauren was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky and now resides in Cincinnati, Ohio, U.S.A., within earshot of Kings Island Amusement Park and its famous Miami Valley Railway–her favorite attraction there.  This is a good thing if you enjoy old fashioned steam engine whistles and thousands upon thousands of disoriented out-of-state drivers clogging up your main thoroughfares and McDonald’s drive thru.
An Epic Cage Match Needs An Epic Genre – Al Boudreau vs. James Tallett
Al Boudreau started this great little writing competition called “In the Cage,” where two writers go head-to-head vying for reader votes.  The host of the competition selects the genre and writes a prompt.  I gently (okay maybe more than gently) suggested that two of my favorite writers, Al Boudreau and James Tallett, be pitted against each other.  Some friendly bantering begun and, well, here we are.
James will absolutely KILL me if I pick romance as the genre.  So, to make things interesting, I’m letting you decide what they will write in.  And hey, if y’all pick romance he can’t blame me for it! ;)
Voting will be open until 10 PM EST TOMORROW!
